la biennale di Venetzia 2011 /

m // ...of course I couldn't go to VENEZIA without visiting this years BIENNALE, the 54th International Art Exhibition! It was absolutely fantastic! One ticket gives you entrance to both of the pavillions for two days. This was not enough time at all and we were left a little overwhelmed and almost a bit drained by all the art at the end of it.. however it is absolutely worth it! I believe I will find myself visiting both VENEZIA and the BIENNALE several times in the future.

ribbonesia /

m// How cute. Ive been loving all the paper craft that has flourished over the last few years, but this is a great idea too. Kind of like origami but with ribbons.. The work is called RIBBONESIA and is by JAPANESE illustrator BAKU MAEDA.

city for chicks /

L// Went for a walk in my hood the other day and snapped some shots. Of Particular interest was the bird city I stumbled across. Made from 300 individually designed wooden houses, it's tenants may include birds, bees and insects. The design still allows the tree space to grow and change and is inspired by the georgian style houses surrounding the park. It is the brainchild of London Fieldworks, they are amazing...

ai weiwei /

l// At the moment The Tate floor is crawling with an epic amount of hand painted porcelain sunflower seeds. The work was intended, by the artist Ai Weiwei (cool name), to be interacted with... to be walked upon, thrown and generally explored... my immediate desire was to get down on my stomach and swim through it. However due to the health and safety risks caused by the porcelain dust the exhibit has been fenced off from the public. To me this was annoying, like being shown a beautiful painting with a blindfold in place. However I guess it almost makes the work more perplexing, what a great symbol of a society gone mad with caution, that we were forced to stand behind a fence and observe what had been placed there for us to excavate and conquer. Still had I not known the initial intent of the artist it still would have dazzled me with it's scale and detail. Well worth a 'look'... Sasha's evaluation = "Oh wow... messy!" Photographs care of Tate photography (TOP) & Fiona Hanson (BOTTOM hehehe)

it's a finch/

l// This is the most amazing thing I have seen since Ron Mueck!!! An installation where finches play instruments amped up in a large white room. If you are in London you absolutely must go to the Barbican to check it out at the Curve gallery. It is on for a few more weeks. The music they make sounds somewhat like the music from 'The books', it is very surreal. I am on cloud nine! floating towards cloud ten!! What a brilliant/crazy idea!!!
